Level 1 & 2 Functional Skills in English
Functional Skills in English are practical, nationally recognised qualifications that demonstrate your ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in real-world contexts. They are widely accepted by employers and further education providers as evidence of literacy competence.
Level 1 is equivalent to a GCSE grade D–G, while Level 2 is equivalent to a GCSE grade A*–C. Both qualifications are regulated by Ofqual and delivered flexibly online with full tutor support.

Eligibility Criteria
Government funding is available to learners who meet the following criteria:
- Aged 19 or over
- Resident in England
- Do not already hold an equivalent or higher qualification in the subject
